Datar Rice Puttu Podi (Flour): 2 Cups
Grated Coconut: 1 Cup
Water: ½ Cup approx.
Datar Salt: To taste
Take 2 cups of Datar Rice Puttu Flour in a bowl. Add salt to taste and mix well. Sprinkle water gradually and mix with your fingertips to form a little moist and crumbly mixture. Make sure that there are no lumps in the flour. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.
Take the Puttu Kutty (a cylindrical tube- lower part is for heating water and the upper part is for steaming Puttu) and add 2 cups of water in the lower part. Allow it to boil.
In the upper part, put 1 tbsp of grated coconut and then 2 fistful of the prepared mixture of Datar Rice Puttu Flour. Make 2 or 3 layers in the same way. Cover the top with the grated coconut and close the lid.
When the water comes to boil, place the upper part of the Kutty on the lower part and fix it carefully.
Let it steam on the medium flame. After 5 to 7 minutes, when the steam starts coming out of the lid, switch off the flame.
Carefully separate the upper part of the Kutty. Open the lid and let it cool for 2 minutes. To remove the steamed Puttu from the Kutty, gently push it with a wooden stick from the lower side.
Enjoy hot Datar Rice Puttu with Chana Curry or Banana.
