What You’ll Need

For the Gravy
  • Datar Nihari Curry Spice Mix: 4 tablespoons (25 grams)Lamb Shank (mutton): 1 kgOnion Slices: 4 (300 grams)Ginger Paste: 2 tablespoons (20 grams)Garlic Paste: 2 tablespoons (30 grams)Wheat Flour: 1 cup (100 grams)Vegetable Oil: 10 tablespoons (50 ml)Ghee : 3 tablespoons (15 ml)Water: 5 cups (1 litre)Datar Salt: As per tasteVegetable Oil: 10 tablespoons (50 ml)

Cooking Steps

  • METHOD OF PREPARATION :Heat oil in a pan. Add the sliced onions and sauté slowly.Cook on a low flame for 3-4 minutes.Add ginger, garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute. Add the lamb shanks and Datar Nihari Curry Spice Mix and fry for 2 minutes.Add 4 cups of water, and salt to taste. Cover the pan and cook till the shanks are tender.Take 1 cup of water in a bowl. Add the wheat flour and mix properly. Add this mixture to the cooked shanks and cook for 2 minutes till the gravy becomes thick.Take ghee in a pan and fry the sliced onions in ghee till it becomes crispy and keep aside.Garnish the Datar Nihari with the fried onion slices. Serve with tandoori roti or naan.
